Reflective Analysis of Portfolio Artifact

Rationale/Reflection

InTASC Standard: Standard 8: Instructional Strategies

The teacher understands and uses a variety of instructional strategies to encourage learners to develop deep understanding of content areas and their connections, and to build skills to apply knowledge in meaningful ways (InTASC, 2013).

Brief Description of Evidence:

During the fall semester of 2019 as a part of my EDUC 201- Technology in Education, I had the opportunity to create a makerspace. In the makerspace, I was able to come up with 5 different activities for the students to complete. In the makerspace, I included information such as the topic, objective, resources and materials, anticipating challenges/proactive measures, instructions, cost, area of STEAM, and Indiana Academic Standard.

Analysis of What I Learned:

Through the makerspace, I learned about the importance of using different instructional strategies. I learned that it is important to encourage learners to develop deep understanding of content areas and their connections and to build skills to apply knowledge in meaningful ways. I also learned that it is important to create different activities that will help to meet the learner’s needs. Through this experience, I have learned how to use John Dewey’s theory to create a learning environment that uses a variety of instructional strategies.

How This Artifact Demonstrates my Competence on the InTASC Standard:

I have demonstrated my competence of Standard 8- Instructional Strategies by creating a makerspace. Through the makerspace, I was able to use a variety of instructional strategies. I was also able to encourage learners to develop a deep understanding of content areas and their connections and to build skills to apply knowledge in meaningful ways. By ensuring that I will be able to understand and use a variety of instructional strategies, I will be able ensure that the learners will develop deep understanding of content areas and their connections and build skills to apply knowledge in meaningful ways.
